When you file your taxes, the Federal Government will GIVE YOU BACK up to $2000 of taxes paid during that fiscal year. Note: You need to have paid at least $2000 in taxes to receive this benefit.

This benefit you receive no matter what. If you qualify as low income by participating in one of Maine's Income Assistance Programs (MaineCare, TANF, HEAP, or SNAP) then you automatically qualify for this benefit. You may also qualify for this benefit as a Moderate Income homeowner if your property value is $90,000 or less in Penobscot County. Property value requirements vary by county.
